The Blue Lotus LOTUS BIRU (French: Le Lotus bleu), first published in 1936, is one of The Adventures of Tintin, a series of classic comic-strip albums written and illustrated by Hergé featuring young reporter Tintin as a hero. It is a sequel to Cigars of the Pharaoh, with Tintin continuing his struggle against a major gang of drug smugglers. He also becomes involved in the resistance to the Japanese invasion of China. The Blue Lotus is a pivotal work in Hergé’s career, moving away from the stereotype and loosely connected stories and marking a new found commitment to geographical and cultural accuracy.
Herge is a Belgium-born comic writer, he studies in France for several years and perhaps knowledge is not the only thing he gained in France, but also an important friend who is going to be a huge part of his life later-on. His name, is Chang Jong-ren, a Chinese student studing in college in France. Chang was introduced to Herge by Father, the two got along quickly and very well. Herge devised to draw a book of Tintin going to Shanghai, China, in 1940s (the era in which they were living in), and Chang taught him fine traditional Chinese art, supervised him in Chinese history and modern political background.
Cigars of the Pharaoh CERUTU SANG FIRAUN is one of Tintin’s earliest adventures. He and Snowy are on a cruise to Egypt when they happen to meet Professor Sophocles Sarcophagus (the first of Tintin’s absent-minded professors) and join his expedition. But they become embroiled in a complicated scheme involving a fakir, cigars marked with an unusual brand, and Rajijah, the poison of madness. Most significantly, Tintin meets the detectives Thompson and Thomson as well as the movie mogul Rastapopolous. While Cigars of the Pharaoh is a self-contained story, some of the mysteries are resolved in The Blue Lotus. Herge wrote Cigars in 1932 then revised it in 1955, which is why the art has the more polished look of later stories as well as the anachronistic glimpse of a copy of Destination: Moon. –David Horiuchi

It has provoked much controversy, particularly in modern times, with many complaints from people who feel the depiction of Africans is racist, and from animal rights groups who feel Tintin engages in cruel behaviour.
Tintin in the Congo, while written for the children’s section of a Belgian newspaper in 1930, is so full of Eurocentric racism and speciesism that it cannot be recommended as reading for young people. However, as an example of white supremacy attitudes of the time, it is an interesting document. The book has often been left out of Tintin collections or edited to soften its most egregious content. I found two English language black and white (and one Spanish language color) editions online at www.Scribd.com, a document sharing website. The English copies at Scribd state that this book was “first published in the U.S.A. in 2002.” In the Forward the translators say the author “admitted that he depicted his Africans according to the bourgeois, paternalistic stereotypes of the period. The same may be said of his treatment of big-game hunting and his attitude towards animals.”

The story is a political satire, expressing Hergé’s distrust of the Soviet Union and poking fun at its claim to have a thriving economy. According to Benoît Peeters’ book (Le monde d’Hergé), the only source used by Hergé to create his story was the book entitled Moscou sans voiles (Moscow Unveiled) written by Joseph Douillet, a former Belgian consul in Soviet Russia. For such reasons, Hergé decided to withdraw the album from circulation in the 1930s. In 1973, a facsimile edition was launched, that immediately became a best-seller (100,000 copies sold in that year alone).
It is the only early Tintin adventure which Hergé did not redraw or colourise in later years, and, as a result, looks and feels very different from the other books.

Destination Moon is the first part of one of the four multi-book stories in the Tintin series, the other part being Explorers on the Moon (On a marché sur la Lune).
It is one of two latter-day Tintin albums (the other being The Castafiore Emerald) that is not structured as a straightforward adventure story; instead, it is an episodic sequence of events surrounding the development of a moon rocket. There is, however, a subplot involving espionage to hold the episodes together.

The Red Sea Sharks is notable for bringing together a large number of characters from previous Tintin adventures, going all the way back to Cigars of the Pharaoh:

Tintin in Tibet TINTIN DI TIBET is the twentieth book in the series. It is said to have been Hergé’s favourite of the Tintin series (previously The Secret of the Unicorn), and was written during a personally difficult time in his life, as he was divorcing with his first wife. The story is unlike any previous Tintin books, before or since: there are only a small number of characters and no enemies, villains, spies or gangsters. This adventure revolves around a rescue mission of Tintin’s Chinese friend Chang Chong-Chen.
It is also unusually emotional for a Tintin story: moments of strong emotion for the characters include Tintin’s enduring belief in Chang’s survival, the discovery of the teddy bear in the snow, Haddock’s attempting to sacrifice himself to save Tintin, Tharkey’s return, Tintin’s discovery of Chang, and the yeti losing his only friend. The Castafiore Emerald PERMATA CASTAFIORE (French: Les Bijoux de la Castafiore) is one of a series of classic comic-strip albums, written and illustrated by Belgian writer and illustrator Hergé, featuring young reporter Tintin as a hero.
The Castafiore Emerald is the twenty-first in the series. The slowest-moving and most sedate of The Adventures of Tintin, it was conceived as a narrative exercise by Hergé. Becoming disillusioned with his most famous creation, the cartoonist wanted to see if he could maintain suspense throughout sixty-two pages in which nothing much happens.[1] Consequently it is a story without villains, guns or danger, but rich in comic setpieces, red herrings, mistaken interpretations, and colourful characters. Moreover, this is one of only two Tintin books in which the characters do not go to another part of the world (the other is The Secret of the Unicorn).

It caused the most controversy of the Tintin stories since the first two (Tintin in the Land of the Soviets and Tintin in the Congo), although the controversies were aesthetic rather than political: Tintin no longer enjoys adventuring and has abandoned his trademark plus fours; Captain Haddock can no longer drink the Loch Lomond brand whisky; and General Alcazar’s masculinity is ridiculed by his new dominant wife.
